SA Civics Education Grant

Civics in the City provides financial assistance for regional schools to visit Parliament House in Adelaide. It is a joint initiative of the Parliament of South Australia, Electoral Commission of South Australia, and Department for Education, with prior support from the Commissioner for Children and Young People.

Successful schools use the grant to deliver an authentic civics and citizenship learning experience for their students, and broaden learning opportunities for students who wouldn’t ordinarily get the chance to visit South Australia’s Parliament House.

How to Apply

Applications for 2026 are open 9 February 2026 – 5pm 13 March 2026.

You can view the schools who received grants in 2025 here.

  • have not utilised Civics in the City funding in the previous 12 months
  • be able to commit to a two hour learning program at Parliament House

  • Take responsibility for student behaviour management

Selection Criteria

A representative of Parliament, the Department, and ECSA will assess each application on its merit and compare it to other eligible applications before recommending which applications should be awarded a grant.

Applications will be assessed against the following criteria:

Criteria 1: Need
Schools should demonstrate why their students need funding to help them visit Parliament House and other civics learning destinations.

Criteria 2: Value
Schools should describe why they need to add to their current civics provision with a civics visit to Adelaide. Provide a plan for the proposed visit and how it fits into the broader civics learning of the students involved.

Criteria 3: Impact
