1894 Suffrage Debates Re-Enactment

Watch a re-enactment of how SA women became some of the first in the world to vote, and the first to run for Parliament.

Description

On 18 December 2019, exactly 125 years after the Bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament, the Parliament staged a historical re-enactment of how women got the right to vote and run for Parliament in SA.

South Australia was the 4th place in the world to give women the right to vote, and the first colony in Australia. South Australia was the 1st place in the world to allow women to run to become members of Parliament.

In this playlist there is a full length version of the speeches (over two acts), and a shorter version with key moments.

The re-enactment stars people of all genders (even though the Parliament at the time was all men), and includes real Members of Parliament playing parts.
