Estimates 2024
Watch Ministers answer questions about how they plan to spend their budget allocations.
One of the main jobs of Parliament is to be the place where government spending is scrutinised and approved. Every year the Parliament must scrutinise the “budget.” The budget is actually a law being passed through the Parliament (a Bill), and allocates where public money will be spent for the upcoming financial year.
One of the steps in the passage of the budget is “Estimates Committees.” Each Minister is questioned by Members of Parliament about how they will spend their allocation. This is an important part of the scrutiny process. You can watch this live online in real time, or come and watch in person from the public gallery.
