Our programs are designed for learners at all points of their Civics & Citizenship or Legal Studies learning. Unless you are advised at the time of booking a program that prior knowledge is required, we plan our content to support all learners.

If you would like to build up to the Parliament experience in your class during your unit, here simple ways to prepare for your program:

  • Workshop public speaking techniques (loud clear voices, speaking slowly, eye contact etc.)
  • Workshop persuasive language techniques.
  • Drafting your own debate scripts.  We have pre-scripted debates for students (e.g. whether we should ban homework in schools), but if you want your students to debate a topic of their choice, you are welcome to come up with a debate topic and get students to write their own speech to bring with them.  Our main advice is that there should be two clear sides.  We need a government and an opposition – it doesn’t work as well when everyone is in agreement! See the learning resource.
  • Brainstorm the key issues in your area (do roads need fixing? What could be improved, or changed?)
  • Create a list of class questions to ask your Member of Parliament, and decide who will ask them.
